How does a Camera Trap work?
- All our camera traps let you photograph animals (or other creatures) when you are not there, by using a passive infrared heat-and-motion detector to trigger the camera
- Easy to set up - simply set up & go (tree mounting strap / screw provided)
- Small, silent, lightweight and portable - you take them and set up any where from trips to the bush, camping, at a lodge, even at home - for fascinating results
- Infrared flash models (invisible to wildlife) also allow for night time photos video clips (certain models only)
- Cutting edge technology for high res photos and video clips (models from 2 MP to 8MP resolution)
- Simply download the pictures and videos onto your PC or laptop
- All models take either standard size ‘AA’, 'C' or ‘D’ cell batteries or come supplied with lead acid rechargeable batteries
- A timer can let you adjust the shot delay from, say, every minute or so (for example on game paths as 23 pictures of a herd of impala will take up a bit of space on your memory card) to every hour (at a food source)
- All our camera traps feature a battery-level indicator and a photo-count indicator that tells you how many shots have been taken
- All models have a Set Up Test Function which ensures for easy and precise camera set up in the field
- A weatherproof housing also protects and hides all the camera trap models
WHO USES THEM?
A Camera trap can be used by anyone who wants to know what goes on when they are not there and have proven to be very popular with;
- wildlife enthusiasts
- wildlife researchers
- game rangers / guides
- game farm / lodge owners
- anti-poaching units
- those wanting security surveillance (both commercial & domestic)
THE DIGITAL AGE
- Digital cameras are fast replacing film cameras for general use, and they have some clear advantages as a camera trap. With a large-capacity memory card, you can shoot many more digital photos before downloading them. On a low-resolution setting, you can shoot even more.
- Some models on offer also have a video option that allows you to shoot video clips.
- The captured digital images and videos may be viewed directly on the camera trap or from a portable viewing device or laptop in the field, or on a TV, camcorder or PC, using the USB cable (supplied). Some models also come with a built in colour viewing screen to view images or video clips in the field.
Because you review digital photos immediately in the field, you can quickly determine if your camera is in the right place and move it if it is not. You can also delete all those shots that you don’t like without wasting film or paying for processing.
If you don't have a computer, you'll need to get one or at least a digital photo printer to download and edit digital photos at home. You can also take the cameras memory card to many photo processing stores and edit, print and pay for just the photos you want to keep.
WHEN TO USE THEM
Camera traps can provide useful information and entertainment at any time of the year.
